Update on COVID-19 | HudsonWay Immersion School
Dear HWIS parents and staff,

We hope that all of you have been healthy and safe in light of the unprecedented and challenging circumstances we are facing as a global community. As we all know, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our state governors Murphy and Cuomo have mandated that all schools in NJ and NY be closed. Given the most recent news as of today, March 21, we should be prepared for a lengthy closure of at least a month.

During this time our goal is to sustain and support our educational community as much as possible under the circumstances. This means keeping our children, staff, and parents engaged. Connecting via online learning connects us with each other in this time of crisis and provides a routine so important psychologically, especially for children. Seeing familiar faces from school will help to re-establish a sense of normalcy. Parents may want to take the extra time to attend to the social and emotional needs of your children. We have compiled a list of some resources you might find helpful, as well as activities that can be explored as a family.

Our staff at HWIS has been busy preparing for the start of e-learning on Monday, March 23 for our NJ students and on Monday, March 30 for our NY students without a day of interruption in learning. We conducted 2 days of e-learning with NY’s students just prior to the start of spring break and received positive feedback. We are committed to making the remote learning as engaging, and productive as possible and welcome your continued feedback. As we gain experience, we will continue to find ways to enrich our students’ learning in ways we might not have imagined.

As difficult as this situation is, it is an opportunity to get closer as a family, and as a community. We are all making sacrifices for the greater good, which is a lesson for our children, in and of itself. We wish you all continued strength of body, mind and spirit. We will stay in touch over the coming weeks. Thank you for all of your support.

Sue Ha
Head of School
