Admissions

Welcome to HudsonWay Immersion School!

HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS) is a diverse language immersion community with two dynamic campuses in northern New Jersey and Midtown West, New York City. HWIS was actually the first Mandarin and Spanish immersion school in New York City when the program began in 2005, and we remain pioneers in the language immersion space today.

Increasingly, globalization has underscored the importance of language acquisition and the value of understanding the world's many cultures. HWIS offers students total immersion in one of two target languages, Mandarin or Spanish, and has an enviable small student-teacher ratio that facilitates learning and allows for one-on-one teaching support. Our educators are native speakers of the immersion language, a key differentiator of HudsonWay Immersion School, and a contributing factor to our students' consistency in attaining the Seal of Biliteracy distinction.

Approximately 80% of HudsonWay Immersion School students come from families who do not speak the target language at home. Nevertheless, students immersed in language at HWIS excel at learning a second language along with all of their other core curricular subjects such as math and language arts. Over the years, HudsonWay has grown into a tight-knit community that provides a rigorous academic environment for its preschool through middle school students. As important, HWIS students go on to place into top-tier independent schools in New Jersey and New York.

As numerous research studies have shown, the case for language immersion is extremely compelling. We are so glad your family is considering the unique opportunities offered by immersion education.

Sincerely,
Sharon Huang
